| Gospel Reflection for August 9th |

Today's reflection is written by Jeffrey Campbell
“I am the living bread that came down from Heaven.”
In Jesus’ time those were difficult words to comprehend. For many reasons the Jews just couldn’t get their heads around the fact that someone they knew, someone who lived so close to them could be who he said he was.
We know all too well that a prophet is not recognized in his home town. Jesus was no different.
Yet, Jesus was different. Jesus is the Son of God-the eternal word. Jesus wasn’t sent to earth to save us from our sins (although that also happened). Jesus was sent to show us the infinite love of our creator. Jesus was sent as the living word-as a means of finding our God, not after we pass from this life, but while we are still alive in this one.
Once we find God in our own heart we can find it in all of creation and most importantly in all the other souls that are here on earth with us.
Imagine what the world would be like if each one of us could accomplish this? The results would be immediate and obvious:
No more hatred
No more war
No more killing
No more looking out for number one.
I think you get the idea.
Changing the world is not a difficult task if we allow God into our hearts and live by the teachings of the Eternal Word of God (Jesus).
Yet, sometimes like the Jews in Jesus’ day, we just can’t seem to see what is right before us.
